An Indian medical student lost her life in a tragic road accident in Kazakhstan, while two other Indian students sustained injuries during an excursion trip, according to an official statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kazakhstan.
The accident involved 11 Indian students from Semey Medical University, who were returning from an excursion when their vehicle met with a road mishap. The incident occurred near Ust-Kamenagorsk, a city in eastern Kazakhstan.
The deceased student has been identified as Mili Mohan, aged 25. The two injured students, Ashika Sheejamini Santhosh and Jaseena B, are reported to be in stable condition and are currently undergoing treatment at City Hospital No. 1, Ust-Kamenagorsk.
In a post shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Embassy expressed deep sorrow over the incident and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased student.
“As per the latest information, the condition of the injured students is stable. The Embassy is in close contact with the university, hospital authorities, and families, and is extending all possible support during this difficult time,” the statement said.
The Embassy further confirmed that family members of the injured students have arrived in Kazakhstan and are in continuous coordination with embassy officials.
Indian authorities are working closely with local officials and hospital administrations to ensure smooth assistance. The Embassy has also initiated priority arrangements for the repatriation of the mortal remains of the deceased student to India.
The students were reportedly visiting areas near the Altai Mountain region, a renowned mountain range in Central Asia spanning Kazakhstan, Russia, China, and Mongolia. The region is famous for its breathtaking landscapes, biodiversity, and UNESCO-recognized natural heritage sites. It is also the origin of major rivers such as the Ob and Irtysh.
This unfortunate incident has once again raised concerns regarding the safety of Indian students pursuing MBBS abroad, especially during travel and excursions. Thousands of Indian students study medicine in countries like Kazakhstan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, making student safety a crucial issue for parents and education consultants.
